Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has arrived in Anambra State for a one-day engagement featuring digital skills development, food support for vulnerable residents and an empowerment programme targeting 5,000 beneficiaries across the state.

Mrs Tinubu touched down at the Chinua Achebe International Airport on Thursday, and was received by Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Nonye Soludo, alongside other senior government officials and state leaders who gathered at the airport to welcome her.

Her visit will include the commissioning of a new Information and Communication Technology Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko. The facility is designed to expand access to digital training, with programmes expected to cover software development, data analysis, digital marketing and other skills linked to emerging opportunities in the global workplace.

The First Lady is also scheduled to launch the National Community Food Bank Programme in the South-East at the Old Government House, Amawbia. The intervention is targeted at widows, elderly persons, people living with disabilities and other vulnerable families, with provisions including food supplies, nutrition education and agricultural support.

Another major engagement is the flag-off of the statewide empowerment programme initiated by the Anambra First Lady, Nonye Soludo, at Ekwueme Square, Awka. The scheme is expected to reach 5,000 people drawn from the state’s 21 local government areas through business grants, vocational tools and equipment for agriculture, agro-processing, beauty services and other small-scale enterprises.

The three engagements place education, social protection and economic empowerment at the centre of the First Lady’s visit, with the initiatives expected to provide practical support to young people, vulnerable households and small-scale entrepreneurs across Anambra.
