Hull City winger Sorba Thomas has escaped without injury after the vehicle he was travelling in overturned near the club’s training ground in Cottingham on Friday morning.

The incident triggered concern among Hull supporters after photographs showing the Wales international’s car lying on its roof emerged on social media.

The crash occurred on Millhouse Wood Lane, close to Hull’s training facilities, but the circumstances surrounding the accident were not immediately disclosed by the club.

Hull City subsequently moved to calm fears over the 27-year-old’s condition, confirming that Thomas walked away from the crash without sustaining any injury.

“We’re relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed,” the club said in a statement.

The Tigers added that although images of the damaged vehicle had circulated widely online, Thomas had emerged from the car “completely unscathed”.

The incident comes just days after Thomas made his first appearances for Hull following his transfer from Stoke City on deadline day.

The winger came on as a substitute during Hull’s goalless Premier League draw with Aston Villa before starting the full 90 minutes in Tuesday’s 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Sunderland.

Thomas’ availability for Hull’s Premier League trip to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday had yet to be confirmed following the accident.

Hull head into the fixture in impressive league form, having collected seven points from their opening three matches without conceding a goal.

The Tigers began their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Manchester United, followed it with a 1-0 win against Coventry City and then held Aston Villa to a 0-0 draw, a run that left them second in the Premier League after three games.
