High Turnout Prompts NIS To Extend UK Passport Exercise

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom to October 3, 2026, following increased demand from Nigerians.

The exercise, being held in London and Manchester, was originally scheduled to end on September 19. The NIS said 1,477 Nigerians were processed within its first four days, with more than half of the passports already produced and dispatched.

In a Friday statement signed by its spokesperson, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the Service said the extension was approved under the directive of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to accommodate more applicants.

Applicants have been advised to book appointments through the Nigerian High Commission’s website and bring their required documents. The NIS also warned against cash or additional payments, stressing that the process is fully automated and cashless.

According to the NIS, the applicable fees remain $162 for a five-year passport and $242 for a 10-year booklet.
