Ager over worsening insecurity and economic hardship boiled over in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, where youths reportedly took to the streets, blocked major highways and set fire to offices belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The protest disrupted movement in the area as large crowds gathered on major roads, preventing motorists from passing through. Videos circulating from the scene showed youths vandalising properties and engaging in disorderly activities during the demonstration.

The protesters were reportedly demanding urgent action over the security challenges confronting communities in the area, alongside growing concerns about the difficult economic conditions affecting residents.

The development comes amid increasing reports of terrorist activities across parts of the North-West, with residents accusing authorities of failing to adequately protect communities, farmlands and livelihoods.

In a related development in neighbouring Zamfara State, terrorists reportedly invaded an open market in Talata Mafara Local Government Area and demanded ₦50 million, 50 cattle and 50 sheep from residents within seven days, threatening another attack if the demands were not met.

Residents said the latest threat followed several previous attacks in the area, during which terrorists allegedly seized farmlands and rustled livestock. They expressed frustration that repeated attacks had not been met with what they considered a sufficiently strong response from security agencies.

The situation has reportedly become increasingly alarming, with residents saying the terrorists now appear confident enough to enter communities openly and impose financial and livestock demands on people they have previously attacked.

The latest concerns also follow a deadly attack on communities in Sauna Ward, Talata Mafara, in July. According to reports, 22 farmers were killed after terrorists reportedly travelled by motorcycle through several communities before attacking the area during the afternoon.

The unrest in Tambuwal highlights the mounting frustration in parts of Sokoto and Zamfara, where insecurity, attacks on farming communities and economic hardship continue to fuel anger among residents demanding stronger protection and decisive government action.
