Tobi Amusan ended her 2026 season with another podium appearance and a $35,000 prize after finishing second in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Athlos meeting in London on Friday.
The Nigerian narrowly missed the top spot at StoneX Stadium, crossing the line in 12.51 seconds, just 0.01 behind American Alaysha Johnson, who secured the title in 12.50 seconds.
Johnson’s victory came in her 40th race of the season, while Amusan once again finished among the leading contenders in an event that has seen the balance of power shift significantly during the year.
Bahamas Commonwealth Games champion Devynne Charlton and former world champion Danielle Williams of Jamaica shared third place after both clocked 12.63 seconds. Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds was fifth in 12.66, with American Rayniah Jones sixth in 12.83.
Amusan’s London outing capped a season in which she remained a consistent presence on the major stages despite losing her world record to American Olympic champion Masai Russell. Russell, who was expected to compete in London, pulled out earlier in the week following her victory at the Diamond League and the $150,000 World Ultimate Championship.
The Nigerian had finished second behind Russell at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, running 12.34 seconds against Russell’s 12.22 and earning $75,000. Russell had earlier erased Amusan’s four-year reign as world record holder by running 12.09 seconds in Zurich, improving the Nigerian’s 12.12-second mark set at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.
Amusan also placed fourth at the Diamond League Final in Brussels, another race won by Russell. Her latest second-place finish in London therefore gave the Nigerian a final podium appearance and another substantial payday as she brought the 2026 campaign to a close.
