A 52-year-old man, Alaba Ayeni, has been found dead inside a domestic well near Lamp Bearers Islamic School along Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Sahara Reporters said the Kwara State Fire Service recovered Ayeni’s body from the well on Tuesday after receiving information about the incident at about 8:42am.

The Service said children in the area first noticed that the man was inside the well and alerted community elders. The well was reportedly located close to Ayeni’s residence.

Firefighters later arrived at the scene and carried out the recovery operation before handing the deceased over to DPO Bolaji of the Budo-Nuhu Police Station for further necessary action.

The Fire Service Public Relations Officer, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, disclosed the incident in a statement, while the Chief Fire Officer, CFS Alabi Muhammed, urged residents to properly cover and secure domestic wells and other open water sources.

Muhammed also advised parents and guardians to monitor children around potentially dangerous locations, including wells and drainage channels. He urged community leaders to identify and secure hazardous spots in their neighbourhoods to prevent avoidable incidents.

The Fire Service expressed condolences to Ayeni’s family and the affected community, while reaffirming its commitment to responding promptly to emergencies and protecting lives and property across the state.
