Families of 37 miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State are set to receive N52 million in financial assistance from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Vanguard, the intervention was disclosed by Governor Umaru Bago after the party’s National Working Committee, led by National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, visited Niger State to commiserate with the government over the deaths.
Bago said the money would be channelled to the affected families and survivors through a state committee headed by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba.
He added that the committee would work alongside the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Farouk Umar-Bahago, to identify the beneficiaries and ensure that the funds reach them.
Yilwatda said the APC delegation visited the state to express solidarity with the government and families affected by the incident, while acknowledging the security challenges facing Niger State.
He also sympathised with the bereaved families and pledged the party’s support to the state government. The APC chairman later led the delegation to the palace of the Emir of Minna as part of the condolence visit.
