Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio (MMI), a foremost socio-cultural organisation in Akwa Ibom State, has called on Nigerians to translate the ideals of independence into practical service, collective action and contributions to national development.
The organisation’s International President, Akparawa Iniabasi Ekanem, made the call on Thursday in his Independence Day and new month message, urging members and Nigerians generally to rise to what he described as the responsibilities of the time.
Ekanem said Nigeria’s development could not be sustained by rhetoric alone, stressing the need for citizens and organised groups to actively contribute to the advancement of their communities and the nation.
He said the country’s strength remained in the ability of its people to work together, support one another and deploy their collective capacity towards addressing societal challenges.
According to him, the 66th Independence anniversary should provide an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect not only on the country’s journey but also on their individual and collective responsibilities to its future.
“Let us unite beyond rhetorics, strengthen our bonds of brotherhood, support one another, and translate our shared values and ideals into meaningful service and action,” Ekanem said.
The MMI President urged members of the organisation to strengthen their commitment to the development of the Ibibio Nation, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria, saying community-level contributions remain important to broader national progress.
He also called for stronger bonds among members and greater support for initiatives capable of creating opportunities and improving the wellbeing of communities.
Ekanem stressed that leadership should be anchored on service, while unity and collective action should be deployed as practical tools for achieving sustainable development.
“Leadership is service, unity is strength, and our collective action is the foundation of lasting progress. Let each of us play our part,” he said.
He urged members to use the new month of October to renew their commitment to peace, unity and service, while encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to society beyond the activities of the organisation.
The MMI leader said the organisation would continue to encourage values and actions capable of strengthening its members, the Ibibio people and the wider society.
He also expressed optimism that the new month would bring greater opportunities, peace and prosperity to Nigerian families and communities.
Ekanem urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in the collective task of nation-building, stressing that the responsibilities associated with citizenship should remain central to the country’s development journey.
He wished members of MMI and Nigerians a happy Independence Day and a productive October, with a renewed call for service, unity and purposeful action.
