President Bola Tinubu has received a briefing on frontline military logistics and proposed reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations as his administration moves to improve the effectiveness of ongoing security campaigns.
The President was briefed by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), during a high-level meeting at the Presidential Residence in Lagos on Monday.
The Defence Ministry said the discussions covered the progress of ongoing military operations, operational logistics on the frontlines and measures being proposed to improve the military’s capacity to respond to security threats.
Musa also briefed the President on reforms designed to improve troop morale, modernise military hardware and upgrade defence infrastructure across the country.
The meeting came amid continuing military operations against insurgency and banditry in different parts of the country, with the government seeking closer coordination among security agencies.
According to a statement by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the discussions also reviewed the country’s broader national defence framework and strategies for strengthening inter-agency security operations.
Tinubu, the statement said, expressed satisfaction with progress recorded in securing vulnerable communities and reaffirmed his administration’s support for the Ministry of Defence.
The President’s position signals continued emphasis on sustaining military operations while addressing some of the institutional and logistical requirements of troops deployed in conflict-prone areas.
Musa, in turn, thanked Tinubu for his guidance and support to the security agencies and assured him that the ministry would continue to discharge its responsibilities with “firm resolve and integrity.”
The Defence Minister’s briefing places equipment renewal, troop welfare, logistics and infrastructure alongside battlefield operations in the administration’s broader strategy for confronting Nigeria’s security challenges.
