Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has called on public officeholders and other Nigerians to embrace selfless service and leave behind legacies that positively impact society, following the death of Chief Daniel Osikheme Orbih.
The governor made the remarks while attending a funeral Mass for the late traditional figure in Ogbona, Edo State, where he joined relatives, friends and sympathisers to pay their final respects.
In a condolence message, Okpebholo reflected on the uncertainty of life, noting that the death of prominent individuals should remind those in positions of responsibility of the importance of using their influence to improve the lives of others.
He stressed that leadership should go beyond occupying public positions, urging those entrusted with authority to demonstrate compassion, serve their communities and make meaningful contributions to the common good.
The governor also extended his sympathies to Orbih’s family, praying that God would give them the strength to cope with their loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.
Okpebholo further encouraged members of the community to draw lessons from the late chief’s life, expressing hope that his memory would continue to inspire purposeful service and concern for humanity.
Orbih, who hailed from the Etsako area of Edo State, died on August 31 at the age of 64.
His death has drawn condolences from associates and members of the community as family, friends and well-wishers continue to mourn his passing.
