The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against circulating a fake online publication purporting to announce governorship candidates in six states.

The states are Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano.

The Next Edition reported that the commission, in a statement, clarified that it did not issue the publication and had made no special announcement concerning governorship candidates in the affected states.

INEC urged members of the public to disregard the information and refrain from sharing it, warning that false electoral announcements could mislead citizens.

The commission advised Nigerians to verify election-related information through its official website, inecnigeria.org, and verified social media accounts. It listed @inecnigeria as its handle on X and Instagram, INEC Nigeria as its Facebook page, and inecnews.com as its news portal.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate electoral information and urged the public to rely on its verified communication channels for official updates.
