The Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Management Board has warned traders against using the commercial hub to circulate dangerous or substandard goods following a National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) raid that led to the arrest of two suspects.
The suspects were allegedly linked to the illegal revalidation of expired drinks and the production of counterfeit consumable products within the complex.
Reacting to the operation, the board’s Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Veronica Safiya Ndanusa, said management would not tolerate activities that endanger consumers or undermine legitimate businesses.
She said investigations were underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and prevent similar practices from recurring.
Ndanusa commended NAFDAC for the enforcement action and pledged the board’s cooperation with regulatory and law enforcement agencies to tackle illegal trade within the facility.
She warned that traders and business operators found culpable of compromising public health or undermining local manufacturing would face the consequences of the law.
The board urged businesses operating within the complex to uphold product standards, stressing that commercial gains must not come at the expense of consumer safety.
Ndanusa reaffirmed management’s commitment to protecting the complex’s reputation as a major trading centre, insisting that illegal activities would not be allowed to erode public confidence in genuine products.
