Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has indicated that some members of the Simplified Movement could be accommodated in Rivers State campaign committees, signalling a possible expansion of the political structure ahead of forthcoming election activities.
Wike made the indication during an ongoing peace and reconciliation meeting, where he told participants that the list of campaign committee members had not been finalised to allow room for those willing to work with the group.
“Some of you will be included in the Rivers State campaign committees. I told them not to conclude with the list yet so we can have those of you who are willing to work with us included,” he said.
The statement suggests that the reconciliation process may extend beyond dialogue to the possible reintegration of some members of the Simplified Movement into campaign activities.
However, the extent of the proposed inclusion, the identities of those to be considered and the specific responsibilities they may receive were not immediately clear.
The development places attention on how the reconciliation initiative will translate into practical political participation, particularly for members who may have felt excluded from the existing structure.
While the offer could provide an avenue for rebuilding working relationships, its significance will depend on whether those involved receive clearly defined roles and are treated as genuine participants rather than merely being mobilised for campaign purposes.
Wike’s remarks also leave open questions about the conditions for reintegration and whether outstanding disagreements within the political group have been addressed.
For the reconciliation effort to produce lasting results, the next steps will matter as much as the assurances given at the meeting. The composition of the final committees and the level of participation granted to returning members are likely to provide a clearer indication of how far the process will go.
For now, Wike’s message is that the door remains open to those prepared to work with the group, although the final arrangements are still to be determined.
