The new Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) office in Akwa Ibom State has reached 95 per cent completion, with the commission projecting the end of November for its commissioning after delays caused by the rainy season.
The facility, located at Atan Offot in Uyo Local Government Area, is expected to provide a permanent base for the commission’s operations in the state.
Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono, who led a delegation to inspect the project, said the contractors would intensify work as the rains subside, in line with the directive of the NDDC Governing Board to expedite its completion.
He said the pace of work reflected the commitment of the commission’s seventh Governing Board to delivering the project, adding that the remaining work would be accelerated to meet the revised deadline.
The Director of the NDDC State Office, Engr. Evong Evong, said workers were putting in extra hours, including night shifts, to ensure the facility was ready for use within the next few weeks.
According to him, the initial deadline was October, but persistent rainfall slowed progress on the site.
Evong, however, expressed confidence that the setback would not prevent the project from being completed by the end of November, noting that the level of work already achieved offered grounds for optimism.
The inspection was also attended by Mrs. Ndifreke Essien, Deputy Director of Community and Rural Development at the NDDC Akwa Ibom State Office.
Journalists who accompanied the delegation witnessed the inspection of the facility, which the commission said had attained 95 per cent completion.
