Police in Ogun State have arrested three students, including a 12-year-old, over a suspected cult initiation in Owode-Yewa, recovering an axe, knives, a cutlass and a toy gun in an operation aimed at disrupting the planned activity.
The suspects, aged 12, 18 and 18, were arrested following intelligence about a planned cult-related gathering tagged “Kito Day”, allegedly involving students from different secondary schools in the area.
The Ogun State Police Command said the operation was conducted on October 22, 2026, after the Divisional Police Officer in Owode-Yewa deployed detectives in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to the location.
Items recovered during the operation included one English axe, two knives, a short cutlass, a rubber toy gun and a school bag.
The police said the suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, on October 23 for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The circumstances surrounding the planned gathering, including the alleged roles of the suspects and whether other students were involved, are expected to be examined as investigations continue.
