Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has questioned Peter Obi’s proposal to serve only one term of four years if elected president, describing the arrangement as a gamble the country cannot afford.
Okorocha made his position known during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, where he also urged the South-East to adopt a strategic approach to political alliances.
He argued that the South-East should consider its long-term political interests before committing to a single-term arrangement, insisting that political decisions should be guided by strategic considerations rather than emotions.
The former governor also declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition, maintaining that the President had done nothing wrong to warrant opposition from the Igbo people.
Okorocha’s comments come amid political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with Obi maintaining his commitment to a four-year presidency if elected.
