GUO Logistics has disputed allegations that it abandoned victims of an incident involving its operations, saying its representatives have maintained daily contact with hospitals, the police and affected families since the incident occurred.
The company said its personnel were present at the general hospital where the victims were initially taken, remaining there from the early hours of the day until about 1 a.m. before accompanying the victims during their transfer to Gombe State.
An unidentified management staff member said the company had continued to monitor the situation through visits to hospitals and the police station, insisting that its response had not been interrupted.
“We have been on top of this issue ever since the day it happened. Our staff were at the general hospital from early morning until around 1 a.m. that day. They were fully on ground when the victims were attended to and transported back to Gombe,” the staff member said.
The representative disclosed that company personnel also visited the hospital and police station on the day preceding the latest response, remaining at the locations until about 8 p.m.
“Our team has been active. We have not missed a day without being there,” the staff member added.
The company maintained that it would continue to follow developments and engage relevant stakeholders to ensure that the victims and their families received attention.
It also rejected the suggestion that concern for its corporate image would take precedence over the welfare of those affected, insisting that the deceased, injured victims and bereaved families deserved dignity, assistance and answers.
“Our position is unequivocal: human lives must never be sacrificed at the altar of corporate reputation. The dead deserve dignity, the injured deserve urgent assistance, and the bereaved families deserve answers,” the statement said.
The Guardian, in its report on the company’s response, published the management’s account of its involvement following the incident.
