Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been criticised following the club’s 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League fixture.
Sky Sports analyst Lewis Jones questioned the Italian goalkeeper’s performance, blaming him for Leipzig’s first equaliser and raising concerns about his handling and decision-making during the encounter, The Sun reported.
City took the lead through a Castello Lukeba own goal before Ridle Baku equalised shortly after half-time. Enzo Fernandez restored the visitors’ advantage with a header, but Antonio Nusa brought Leipzig level again three minutes later.
Erling Haaland scored the winning goal in the 78th minute, converting Elliot Anderson’s cross to take his tally against Leipzig to 13 goals in nine appearances.
Leipzig threatened another equaliser in the closing stages, with David Raum hitting the crossbar, while Rayan Cherki also struck the woodwork for Manchester City.
Haaland said City needed to pursue more goals after taking the lead rather than allowing Leipzig to recover, while manager Enzo Maresca acknowledged that his side faced difficult moments during the encounter.
The victory moved Manchester City to seventh place in the Champions League league-phase standings following their Premier League defeat to Brighton last Saturday.
