Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has said Nigeria’s political future would not be threatened if former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar does not participate in the 2027 presidential election.
Keyamo’s comments followed a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja which nullified the leadership structure of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark and invalidated the process through which Atiku emerged as the party’s presidential candidate, according to The Political Desk.
Reacting to the ruling on Friday, November 6, the minister argued that judicial decisions should be guided by facts and evidence rather than political sentiments, stressing that court judgments must be respected irrespective of who is affected.
He also cautioned politicians against attacking or intimidating judges over decisions that do not favour them.
Atiku and the ADC have, however, rejected the judgment and indicated plans to challenge it at the Court of Appeal, leaving the party’s leadership dispute and preparations for the 2027 general election subject to further legal proceedings.
