Russian missile and drone strikes have killed 16 people and injured more than 40 others in Kyiv and surrounding areas.

According to Reuters, the figures were presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as the overnight attack caused extensive damage across the Ukrainian capital.

The strikes damaged residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure, while emergency workers were deployed to affected areas to carry out rescue and recovery operations.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine needs additional air-defence support to strengthen its ability to protect its cities from further Russian attacks.
