Iran has reportedly granted permission for some Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, following repeated requests from Baghdad.

The move, according to USA TODAY News provides Iraq with an important route for exporting crude amid severely reduced shipping traffic through the strategic waterway.

However, this does not mean the Strait is fully open. Maritime traffic remains dramatically below normal levels amid the continuing U.S. – Iran confrontation and security risks.
