A 19-year-old man has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command for allegedly impersonating a security operative while attempting to rob a resident in the state.

The suspect was reportedly arrested after he allegedly went to a residence in Katsina, claiming to be a member of a security agency.

Police said the suspect was found with a black toy pistol, which investigators believe may have been used to intimidate his intended victim during the alleged operation.

The command said the arrest followed information received by its operatives, who responded to the report and took the suspect into custody.

Channels Television reports that the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, said in a statement issued on Monday that the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Ali Fage, commended residents of the community and members of a local vigilante group for their cooperation, which contributed to the arrest.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue into the alleged impersonation and attempted robbery.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminal activities and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with relevant information.
