The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State has recorded a major addition to its membership following the arrival of 2,025 former supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to Channels Television, the development took place in Nangere Local Government Area on Sunday, when the new members publicly identified with the PDP during a political gathering in Sabon Garin Nangere.

The ADC had the largest number of defectors, with 1,300 people joining the PDP. They were followed by 500 former APC supporters and 225 members of the NDC.

PDP leaders at the event described the development as a boost to the party’s strength in the area as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.

Halilu Mazagane, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and former Yobe South senatorial candidate, led the party delegation that received the defectors.

Mazagane appealed to the new members to work with other party supporters and maintain peace as preparations for the next general election continue.

“We call on you, the defectors and the existing members of the party to stay focused and not to be intimidated. Vote for us at all levels,” he said.

He also spoke about his ambition to represent Potiskum/Nangere Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, saying youth employment and women’s empowerment would receive attention under his proposed representation.

“If elected, we promise to create jobs for youths and empower women,” he said.

The latest movement adds to the political realignments taking place across the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
