Sinai Bus Crash Kills 22, Injures 28 In Egypt

A passenger bus accident in Egypt’s South Sinai Peninsula has claimed 22 lives and left 28 others injured, according to authorities, as emergency teams responded to the crash on Wednesday.

The accident occurred along the desert road linking the Red Sea resort towns of Dahab and Nuweiba, an area popular with tourists because of its beaches, coral reefs and mountainous terrain. Jordanian media outlet Al-Mamlaka reported that 10 of those killed were Jordanian nationals.

According to the report by Channels Television, the bus was carrying 43 passengers, including 22 Jordanians. Egypt’s Health Ministry said it deployed 20 ambulances to the scene, with the injured victims evacuated to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

The cause of the crash had not been established at the time of the report, while footage from AFP showed the badly damaged bus overturned beside the highway, with debris scattered around the crash site.

Road accidents remain a major concern in Egypt, with authorities and observers often linking fatal crashes to factors including reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance and weak enforcement of traffic regulations. Channels Television reported that nearly 6,000 people were killed in road accidents across Egypt last year, according to the country’s state statistics agency.
