EFCC Recovers N1.23trn In 34-Month Anti-Graft Drive
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has recovered N1.233 trillion in proceeds of fraud and other criminal activities in the 34 months since Olanipekun Olukoyede assumed office as its Executive Chairman, describing the recoveries as one of the clearest measures of its renewed assault on financial crimes.
The commission also disclosed that its recoveries between October 1, 2023 and June 30, 2026 included $684.478 million, £373,905.78 and €9.343 million, alongside funds recovered in other currencies. Olukoyede made the disclosure at a media forum where he presented an account of his stewardship and the commission’s progress under his leadership.
According to him, the figures reflect a broader strategy built around sustained enforcement, institutional reforms and stronger cooperation with domestic and international partners. He said the approach had enabled the commission to focus more deliberately on its statutory mandate while strengthening its capacity to tackle financial crimes and cybercrime.
Olukoyede said asset recovery remained a major pillar of his administration, stressing that the objective was not only to recover stolen resources but also to ensure that the commission’s activities contribute to protecting Nigeria’s financial system and economic interests.
He further linked the commission’s efforts to broader economic outcomes, arguing that successful action against financial crimes could help rebuild confidence in Nigeria, stimulate economic growth and improve the country’s attractiveness to foreign investors.
While acknowledging that more work remained, Olukoyede said the commission had remained committed to the principle that nobody should be above the law. He maintained that the results recorded so far represented measurable progress towards repositioning the EFCC to serve the interests of Nigerians through a sustained and uncompromising fight against financial crimes.
