The Education for Climate Coalition has opened applications for its 2026 Call for Innovative Green Education Action Projects, offering students, educators, schools, organisations and other education stakeholders an opportunity to showcase practical initiatives addressing climate change and promoting sustainability through education.
The initiative is being organised ahead of Education for Climate Day 2026, scheduled for October 22, 2026, and seeks to spotlight projects that demonstrate how education can translate climate awareness into practical action within communities.
Unlike conventional funding calls that primarily seek proposals for projects yet to begin, the Coalition is specifically looking for real initiatives that have already been implemented or are currently underway. Applicants are expected to provide evidence of their projects’ impact through materials such as photographs, videos, learning resources, educational tools and other relevant documentation.
The selected initiatives will be presented during Education for Climate Day 2026, giving their representatives an opportunity to share their experiences with education and climate stakeholders from across the European Education Area.
A major attraction of the programme is that three projects from each of the three thematic categories will be selected for presentation. Representatives of the successful projects will receive a fully funded trip to Brussels to attend the event and engage with other participants working to advance climate education.
The first thematic area focuses on Youth Leadership and Intergenerational Dialogue for Climate Action, encouraging initiatives that empower young people and foster cooperation between different generations in responding to environmental challenges.
The second category, Citizenship Education and Institutional Action for Sustainability, targets projects demonstrating how education can strengthen responsible citizenship and encourage institutions and communities to adopt sustainable practices.
The third theme, GreenComp: Envisioning Sustainable Futures in Teaching and Learning, is centred on innovative approaches to integrating sustainability competencies and future-oriented thinking into teaching and learning.
The opportunity is open to a broad range of stakeholders, including students, educators, schools, universities, civil society organisations, public institutions, companies, cultural actors and non-formal education providers.
However, applicants must meet an important geographical requirement: submitted projects must have been implemented or be under implementation within formal or informal learning settings in the European Education Area.
The Coalition says successful projects should provide practical evidence of their contribution to areas including climate action, sustainability, youth participation, green citizenship and community engagement.
Interested applicants are expected to submit projects under one of the three thematic areas and provide supporting evidence demonstrating their impact. Applicants have been advised to consult the official Education for Climate Coalition platform for the specific application form, submission requirements and instructions.
The call provides an opportunity for education stakeholders with proven climate and sustainability initiatives to gain international visibility, exchange ideas with peers and bring their experiences to a wider European education community.
