The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has turned to one of its experienced financial administrators, Mrs Ramatu O. Ibrahim, to steer its Bursary Department as Acting Bursar, following the death of the substantive holder of the office, Mallam Nasir G. Marafa.
Ibrahim, who until her appointment was Deputy Bursar, Treasury, assumed the position on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, following approval by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, with the concurrence of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Malam Isa Yuguda, CON.
The appointment, which remains effective until further notice, places the university’s financial administration in the hands of an officer with extensive experience across the institution’s Bursary Department.
According to the university, Ibrahim has served in several key operational units of the department, acquiring experience in accounting, financial management, treasury operations and other critical administrative processes.
Her immediate past assignment as Deputy Bursar, Treasury, also saw her provide professional leadership and oversight of the university’s treasury operations, further positioning her for the acting role.
The Registrar, Mr Oladipo Ajayi, said Ibrahim’s depth of experience and familiarity with NOUN’s financial systems were key considerations in her appointment.
Ajayi said the decision was aimed at ensuring continuity, stability and effective leadership in the university’s financial administration at a time when the institution is adjusting to the loss of its substantive Bursar.
The appointment followed the death of Marafa, whose passing was announced by the university after he was reportedly shot in Gusau, Zamfara State.
