The approval of ₦800 million to support businesses owned by non-indigenes in Akwa Ibom State has emerged as a major highlight of the community’s assessment of the state’s development as it marks 39 years of creation.

The State Coordinator of the Non-Indigenes Association and Personal Assistant to Governor Umo Eno on Volunteer Services, Amb. Sunday Uskhifo, said the intervention had demonstrated that people living and doing business in Akwa Ibom, regardless of their place of origin, could benefit from the state’s economic growth.

Uskhifo spoke in Uyo while congratulating the government and people of the state on the 39th anniversary, stressing that the association was particularly encouraged by policies and projects which, according to him, had strengthened opportunities for residents and businesses.

He identified the ₦800 million business support as a significant gesture towards non-indigenes, saying it underscored an inclusive approach to governance and provided an opportunity for beneficiaries to strengthen their enterprises.

Beyond the financial intervention, Uskhifo cited infrastructure development, agriculture, security, education, healthcare and human capital development among areas in which he said the state had recorded progress under the Eno administration.

He also pointed to the ongoing inauguration of 39 projects across the state as part of the anniversary activities, describing the projects as evidence of continuing investment in physical infrastructure and public development.

According to him, the achievements recorded since the creation of Akwa Ibom could not be separated from the contributions of successive administrations, while the present government was sustaining what he described as the vision of the state’s founding leaders.

“I’ve been here for the past 39 years. This is our month of gratitude. The government of Pastor Umo Eno has achieved a lot,” Uskhifo said.

He said the non-indigenes community had a stake in the continued development of Akwa Ibom, assuring that members of the association would remain committed to the peace and economic progress of the state.

Uskhifo’s comments came as Akwa Ibom marked its 39th anniversary with activities centred on gratitude and reflections on the state’s development trajectory.

He also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Eno and other All Progressives Congress candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections.
