Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to put aside internal disagreements and unite behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the appeal on Saturday while inaugurating the Ondo State Presidential Election Campaign Council, its directorates and sub-committees at the International Culture and Event Centre in Akure.
Aiyedatiwa warned that the APC could jeopardise its electoral prospects if its members allowed personal interests and factional disputes to weaken the party. He maintained that political dominance alone would not guarantee victory without cooperation among leaders and supporters.
Drawing lessons from the internal crises that have fractured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the governor urged APC members in Ondo to avoid similar divisions, recalling how alliances among opposition parties helped establish the APC and secure victory over the PDP in the 2015 elections.
He also argued that retaining political power was essential to advancing the interests of party members and their communities, urging stakeholders to prioritise collective success over individual ambitions.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami, challenged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation, with a target of securing one million votes for Tinubu in 2027.
Adelami said achieving the goal would require sustained engagement with voters through house-to-house visits, street campaigns and direct interaction with residents across the state. He called on women, youths, elders and other groups to participate actively in the mobilisation exercise.
The deputy governor expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a visionary leader, and urged APC members to return to their respective constituencies to build support for the president’s second-term ambition.
Similarly, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, called on party leaders to consolidate the APC’s electoral strength and work towards a decisive victory in the coming polls. He expressed optimism that the state would deliver strong support for Tinubu.
Earlier, APC state chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, urged members of the newly inaugurated campaign structures to extend their mobilisation efforts to every part of Ondo State.
Babatunde linked the party’s electoral expectations to the performance of the state and federal governments, citing the Aiyedatiwa administration’s reported completion of more than 50 road projects, alongside over 50 others under construction.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the APC leadership in Ondo is banking on party unity, grassroots outreach and its record in government to achieve its ambitious one-million-vote target for Tinubu.
