2027: Defence Minister Backs Tinubu’s Re-election, Tasks APC Security Team

Defence Minister Christopher Musa (retd.) has declared that President Bola Tinubu will return to office in 2027, urging the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign security team to focus on creating conditions for peaceful electioneering across the country.

Musa made the declaration on Sunday in Abuja at the inauguration of national and state-level structures of the Directorate of Security and Intelligence of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, according to The Sun.

He said the priority was to ensure that campaign activities could proceed without security threats, describing a safe environment as essential to the party’s preparations for the next general election.

The minister’s position aligns with that of the APC leadership, whose National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has described Tinubu’s re-election bid as non-negotiable. Yilwatda was represented at the inauguration by the party’s Deputy National Secretary, Prof. Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana.

Kana challenged members of the directorate to secure campaign venues and routes before political events begin, maintain protection throughout proceedings and ensure safe movement after events conclude. He also urged them to draw lessons from the discipline and coordination associated with military operations.

Meanwhile, the directorate’s Director of Intelligence and Security, Major General Sarkin Yaki Bello (retd.), cautioned members against abusing their responsibilities, insisting that their assignment must protect both the President and the public while upholding democratic order.

The President’s Special Adviser on Homeland Security, Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa (retd.), also stressed that adequate security would be necessary to prevent disorder during the election period.

Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (retd.), who chairs Operations and Field Coordination for the directorate, disclosed that preparations were already under way for campaign activities across the country’s 36 states.

Speaking for the newly inaugurated officers, the South-West coordinator, Lt. Gen. Lamidi Adeosun (retd.), pledged that members would be accountable and deliver on the responsibilities entrusted to them.
