Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, has urged APC leaders and supporters in Oron Local Government Area to take the party’s 2027 campaign to the grassroots and begin mobilisation across wards and polling units.
Eyakenyi spoke on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting at her residence in Oron, where she said Governor Umo Eno’s administration had delivered several projects in the area and deserved the support of residents at the polls.
She said the Governor’s ongoing consultations were part of his preference for a grassroots-driven campaign structure, urging political leaders to move beyond meetings and engage directly with voters in their respective communities.
The Deputy Governor identified the collection of Permanent Voter Cards by registered voters as one of the immediate priorities, while urging stakeholders to work towards the APC’s “5 over 5” objective for the 2027 elections.
She also used the meeting to highlight several government projects in Oron Federal Constituency, including the ongoing maritime infrastructure project at Oron Beach, the Uyo-Nsit Atai-Okobo-Oron Road, Oron model health centre, Youth Development Centre, model primary healthcare facility, model school and compassionate homes.
According to Eyakenyi, work is also expected to begin on the rehabilitation of the Okopedi-Uya Oro Road leading to the beach, while a model secondary school has been proposed for the area.
“The projects are there for all to see. Oron Local Government Area and indeed, Oron federal constituency have never had it this good,” she said.
Eyakenyi further urged residents to support President Bola Tinubu, saying the Federal Government’s economic reforms were aimed at creating a more sustainable economy rather than relying solely on short-term interventions.
She appealed for cooperation with the Oron Local Government Council and security agencies ahead of the elections, urging residents to report suspicious activities and avoid actions capable of threatening the peace in the area.
Also speaking, the member representing Oron Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Martins Esin, described the ongoing maritime infrastructure project at Oron Beach as the biggest government project delivered to the constituency since Akwa Ibom State was created in 1987.
Esin said the Oron Youth Development Centre was the first among the centres being commissioned across the state to be commissioned by the Governor, describing it as another indication of the administration’s attention to the constituency.
He also defended the Federal Government’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, urging residents to endure the immediate difficulties while expecting longer-term benefits from the policies.
The lawmaker said increased federal allocations to subnational governments were enabling more infrastructure and human capital projects at the grassroots, and called for continued support for both the federal and state administrations.
The Executive Chairman of Oron Local Government Council, Okon Asuquo Enweme, said the stakeholders’ meeting was organised to receive direction from the Deputy Governor as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
Representatives of women and youth groups also pledged their backing, pointing to the administration’s youth-focused programmes and inclusive approach to governance.
The stakeholders subsequently called for greater unity among party members and pledged to take the APC’s message of continuity to communities across Oro ahead of the 2027 elections.
