Senator Diket Plang has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will secure most elective positions in Plateau State in 2027, arguing that the opposition coalition lost valuable time by waiting until party candidates had emerged before joining forces.
The senator, who represents Plateau Central Senatorial District, also backed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, maintaining that the ruling party’s campaign structures and ongoing government projects would strengthen its chances at the polls.
According to The Sun, Plang described the opposition alliance as a “merger of convenience” rather than a comprehensive coalition, arguing that an earlier agreement would have given the parties a better opportunity to organise against the APC.
He also defended Tinubu’s campaign approach, saying a presidential candidate did not need to visit every community or polling unit to communicate with voters, provided effective structures were in place to distribute the candidate’s manifesto across the country.
On insecurity, Plang pointed to the establishment of additional military battalions in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Wase and Langtang in Plateau State, describing the deployments as steps towards improving security. He urged Nigerians to give the president more time to implement his security measures.
The senator further praised the Federal Government’s infrastructure programme, citing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Akwanga-Keffi road corridor as projects he believes could support long-term economic growth. He urged voters to assess political parties based on their performance and ongoing projects rather than opt for an alternative he described as untested.
