Another 65 Nigerians are expected back in the country on Wednesday, August 26, as the Federal Government steps up coordination of the latest return of Nigerians from South Africa.
The returnees, whose repatriation is being funded by private individuals, are scheduled to leave the O. R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at 3:30 p.m. local time aboard a South African Airways flight.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the flight is expected to touch down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at 8:45 p.m. the same day.
The ministry described the return as a coordinated process involving government agencies, private sponsors and other stakeholders to facilitate the safe movement of the Nigerians back home.
It expressed appreciation to the private individuals financing the exercise, acknowledging their role in making the latest return possible.
The development also highlights the growing involvement of non-governmental actors in supporting the safe return of Nigerians abroad, particularly where repatriation requires logistical and financial assistance.
The Federal Government assured that relevant agencies would continue to coordinate the process and ensure the returnees are safely received upon arrival in Nigeria.
