The search for a traditional ruler abducted during a nighttime attack in Kano State has ended in tragedy after his body was reportedly found buried in a shallow grave.
Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, the village head of Aujarawar Alkali in Gezawa Local Government Area, was reportedly taken away by armed men who invaded the community on the night of September 17, 2026.
Ahmad, popularly known as Ruwata, was said to have been seized from the community during the raid, with the attackers subsequently leaving residents uncertain about his whereabouts.
Days later, his remains were reportedly discovered at Danladin Gezawa, where he was said to have been buried in a shallow grave.
Security analyst Bakatsine, writing on X under the handle @DanKatsina50, reported the discovery and said a funeral prayer for the traditional ruler was conducted at about 3pm on Wednesday.
A resident also confirmed the reported death, although the Kano State Police Command had not publicly issued a statement on the incident at the time of reporting.
The abduction had first come to public attention on September 18, following reports that armed assailants had entered Aujarawar Alkali and taken the village head away. Residents had subsequently appealed for his safe return while expressing concern over the security situation in the community.
The discovery of Ahmad’s body has now brought a grim end to those hopes. Details surrounding the circumstances of his death remain unclear, including whether the abductors demanded a ransom or whether any negotiation took place.
No arrests linked to the reported killing had been announced by the police as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has further heightened concerns over attacks on rural communities in northern Nigeria, particularly the vulnerability of traditional leaders who often play a key role in liaising between residents, local authorities and security agencies.
