Nigerian-American lawmaker Segun Adeyina has attributed the Democratic Party’s victory in the 2026 United States midterm elections to voters’ concerns over rising living costs, healthcare access and housing affordability.
Adeyina, a member-elect of the Georgia House of Representatives for District 110, said economic pressures facing ordinary Americans played a major role in determining their choices at the polls.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, he identified the cost of rent, mortgage payments, groceries and healthcare as issues that influenced voters more than political campaign messages.
He also linked the economic difficulties confronting American households to President Donald Trump’s handling of the war in Iran, saying the military conflict contributed to rising costs and worsened affordability challenges.
Adeyina described the Democratic Party’s electoral performance as a “blue tsunami”, saying the outcome reflected voters’ decision to support candidates based on issues affecting their everyday lives.
The lawmaker also celebrated his re-election, saying his return for a third term demonstrated the confidence residents of Georgia’s House District 110 had in his leadership and public service.
He said his victory was particularly significant as a Nigerian-American, adding that he was first elected in 2022 and had since secured the support of constituents across Grayson, Snellville, Lawrenceville and Loganville.
