Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that he travelled to Italy on what he described as a spiritual journey to pray for Nigeria and against insecurity, banditry and terrorism.

According to Sahara Reporters, Akpabio said the visit was part of a spiritual journey during which he prayed for Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the National Assembly and the Federal Executive Council.

Speaking to St. Padre Pio TV/Radio during the visit, the Senate President said he had also prayed specifically for an end to banditry, terrorism and insecurity across the country. He described the site as a holy ground and said he and others on the trip were seeking God’s blessings for themselves, their families and Nigeria.

Akpabio said his decision to embark on the spiritual journey was influenced by his Christian faith and his belief that efforts to protect a country ultimately require divine assistance.

The Senate President’s visit comes as insecurity remains a major issue in Nigeria, with armed groups responsible for attacks and kidnappings in parts of the country. During his Italy visit, he also prayed for peace and a peaceful conduct of the 2027 general elections.
