Carlos Alcaraz has secured a place in the Vienna Open field beginning October 26, turning the postponement of Saudi Arabia’s Six Kings Slam into an opportunity to return to the Austrian tournament.
Organisers announced the world number three’s participation on Thursday after tournament director Herwig Straka contacted the Spaniard’s management team when the Saudi exhibition’s rescheduling became apparent, Channels Television reported.
The Six Kings Slam was originally scheduled for October 21–24, with Netflix set to stream the event live. Organisers have since moved their target dates to December 27–30 following deadly attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Saudi Arabia.
Alcaraz will join a strong field featuring US Open champion Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur, Learner Tien, Daniil Medvedev, Flavio Cobolli and Frances Tiafoe at the ATP 500 indoor hard-court competition.
The Spaniard last played in Vienna in 2021, reaching the semi-finals. He won the Tokyo title in September after returning from an extended injury absence at the US Open but suffered a straight-sets loss to Zizou Bergs in the Shanghai Masters third round on Monday.
