The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has called on Nigerian Army personnel to intensify efforts to maintain security across the country, stressing the importance of protecting the electoral process and ensuring peaceful conditions for democratic activities.
Shaibu made the call on Saturday during a visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force, North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The army chief’s visit focused on assessing military operations, evaluating troop welfare and strengthening the readiness of personnel deployed to confront insurgency in the North-East.
Addressing officers and soldiers after a closed-door meeting with commanders and heads of formations, Shaibu reminded the troops of their responsibility to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and contribute to an environment where citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear.
He stressed that professionalism, discipline and dedication must remain central to the conduct of military personnel, particularly as the country continues to confront security threats.
The visit came two days after President Bola Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue abducted victims and eliminate terrorist and bandit camps across Nigeria.
Shaibu expressed satisfaction with the morale of troops in the North-East, describing them as determined to carry out their assignments despite the security challenges confronting the region.
He encouraged the personnel to maintain their operational momentum, uphold the highest standards of conduct and remain committed to their constitutional duties.
The Chief of Army Staff also reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and support broader efforts to restore peace and stability.
His engagement with troops in Maiduguri forms part of ongoing military consultations aimed at monitoring operations, addressing personnel needs and improving the effectiveness of the Army’s response to security threats in the North-East.
