Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has promised to tackle insecurity, address the country’s economic challenges and restore public confidence in government if Nigerians elect him president in 2027.
Atiku made the commitment on Wednesday in Sokoto State, where he arrived for the official launch of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign.
The former vice-president, who is the ADC’s presidential candidate, said Nigerians had endured enough hardship, insecurity and unfulfilled political promises, insisting that the country needed a new direction.
In a message shared on his X account, Atiku appreciated the supporters who came out to welcome him, describing Sokoto as a city with a rich history of religious scholarship, faith and leadership.
He said his ambition was to provide Nigerians with an alternative leadership capable of addressing the challenges affecting their daily lives.
Atiku specifically promised to confront the security crisis threatening communities across the country, give young people renewed hope and make life more affordable for ordinary Nigerians.
He also expressed confidence that the ADC would emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election, describing the campaign launch in Sokoto as the beginning of an effort to rescue the country.
His visit came amid political tension following his earlier allegation that the Department of State Services (DSS) was planning to disrupt the ADC’s campaign activities in Sokoto.
The secret police responded to the allegation, confirming that it was investigating the matter.
The campaign launch marks a major step in the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 general election as Atiku seeks another opportunity to lead Nigeria.
