The killing of three people during a September 2023 kidnapping operation in Sokoto State has ended with a death sentence for one of the alleged perpetrators.

The Department of State Services (DSS) said Ibrahim Usman, popularly known as Dan Iyali, was convicted by the High Court of Justice, Sokoto Judicial Division, after being found guilty of offences arising from the incident.

Usman was tried on four counts bordering on criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, culpable homicide punishable by death and voluntarily causing grievous hurt without provocation.

The charges followed his alleged involvement in the abduction and subsequent killing of three persons in Sokoto State in September 2023.

Delivering its judgment, the court found Usman guilty of the offences and sentenced him to death in accordance with the applicable provisions of the law.

He was prosecuted alongside other suspects who, according to the DSS, remain at large.

The service said the judgment represents a further outcome of its efforts to prosecute suspects linked to serious crimes and secure justice through the courts.

The DSS did not disclose the identities of the three victims or provide further details on the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
