An argument over an accidental splash of water has reportedly ended in tragedy after Egyptian footballer Ibrahim Al Baghdadi was stabbed to death outside his residence in Ismailia Governorate.
The incident occurred in New Qassasin city, where the footballer was allegedly involved in a disagreement with members of a young girl’s family.
Reports indicate that Al Baghdadi was spraying water outside his home when some of it accidentally landed on a girl who was passing by. The incident reportedly angered her relatives, who subsequently went to the footballer’s residence to confront him.
What initially appeared to be a minor disagreement reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation, with knives brought into the altercation.
During the fight, one of the girl’s relatives allegedly attacked Al Baghdadi, stabbing him several times in the abdomen. He sustained serious injuries and later died.
Al Baghdadi previously played for National Bank of Egypt and was also associated with ZED FC.
Security operatives reportedly arrived at the scene following the incident and arrested the suspects involved in the confrontation.
The matter has since been transferred to the Public Prosecution, which ordered a forensic examination to determine the precise cause of death.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
