Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has initiated a comprehensive maritime infrastructure project in Oron to boost coastal transportation, trade, fisheries and tourism under the state’s ARISE Agenda.
The project, aligned with the administration’s Blue Economy development targets, features passenger and cargo jetties, a terminal building, warehouse, cold room, fish-drying facilities, hotel, recreational area and other support infrastructure.
When completed, the facilities are expected to improve passenger and cargo movement, reduce post-harvest losses in the fishing industry, strengthen maritime security and attract private investment.
The initiative is also expected to create jobs and expand economic opportunities for coastal communities, positioning Oron as a strategic maritime hub and supporting the state government’s drive to diversify the economy.
