Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has promised to recognise and reward corps members who distinguish themselves during their service year in the state.
Eno made the pledge on Wednesday during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch B, Stream 2 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Course held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ikot Itieudung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
Represented by his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the governor encouraged the corps members to make meaningful contributions to the communities where they would be posted, stressing that those who perform exceptionally would be rewarded at the end of their service.
He said previous corps members who made significant contributions during their service in Akwa Ibom had received personal commendations and awards from him.
“Many of your colleagues who served here in the past have done exemplary and exceptional work and many have been rewarded personally by me.
“We are expecting that at the end of your service year you will be honored in the same way due to your performance,” he said.
Eno congratulated the corps members on completing the orientation programme and urged them to approach their Primary Places of Assignment with commitment as they begin the next phase of their service.
Describing Akwa Ibom as peaceful and welcoming to corps members, the governor asked them to contribute to sustaining the state’s reputation for hospitality, peace and unity.
“Akwa Ibom is a state that is adjudged to be one of the most peaceful, hospitable and most sought after by corps members across the nation.
“We expect you to help deepen this culture of hospitality, peace and unity during your service period here,” he said.
He also disclosed that the state government would provide a monthly allowance for corps members deployed to schools, hospitals and other areas of development.
According to him, the initiative is intended to support their contribution to the state’s development agenda, particularly in education.
The governor further reminded the corps members that the NYSC was established in 1973 to strengthen national unity and integration following the Nigerian Civil War. He urged them to see their service year as an opportunity to gain practical experience and prepare for their future.
Eno also encouraged the corps members to embrace Akwa Ibom’s culture, build relationships with residents and make the most of their stay in the state.
He expressed hope that some of them could eventually establish lasting connections with Akwa Ibom through employment, marriage or choosing to settle in the state after completing their service.
