FESTAC Widows Get Free Breast Cancer Screening, Health Checks

Widows in FESTAC Town, Lagos, have received free breast cancer awareness services, blood pressure monitoring and blood sugar checks in a community health intervention aimed at improving access to preventive healthcare among vulnerable women.

The outreach was organised by KindPath Reliance Foundation in collaboration with the Councillor representing Ward B2 in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Omolara Adeogun, at the Ward B2 Secretariat.

The exercise also featured the distribution of consumables and welfare support to beneficiaries.

Project Manager and Trustee of the foundation, Zainab Oyedele, said the intervention was designed to encourage preventive healthcare and help participants identify health conditions that require early medical attention.

She explained that many health complications could be better managed when detected early, making access to basic medical checks particularly important for vulnerable members of the community.

Oyedele said the initiative was also an opportunity to recognise the difficulties widows face, especially those responsible for raising children while dealing with economic pressures and other family responsibilities.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Adekunle Paul Odebiyi, said improving the welfare of vulnerable groups required sustained cooperation among individuals, institutions and community stakeholders.

“Sustainable community development requires collective responsibility and continued attention to the welfare of vulnerable groups,” he said.

Odebiyi appreciated the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Olugbenga Oyerinde, the councillor, Adeogun, and other supporters for contributing to the success of the programme.

He also acknowledged the medical personnel, media practitioners, welfare volunteers and other contributors who participated in delivering the services.

The foundation called for stronger collaboration among government officials, community leaders, healthcare professionals and humanitarian organisations to extend essential health and welfare interventions to underserved populations.

It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, including widows, orphaned children and older persons.
