The Federal Government has launched a National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System designed to improve how Nigerians and businesses identify, access and connect to opportunities and services across the country.
The initiative, launched by the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), is expected to provide individuals, businesses, government agencies and service providers with a more reliable digital means of identifying locations and reaching people across Nigeria.
According to TVC News, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, announced the development on Thursday, describing accurate digital location identification as an important part of the infrastructure needed to expand economic participation.
Tijani said the system is expected to support businesses by making it easier to reach customers and deliver goods and services, while also helping government institutions and emergency responders locate communities and individuals more efficiently.
The digital postcode system forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and create systems that can connect people and businesses to economic opportunities. NIPOST is expected to drive the adoption of the system nationwide as Nigerians and organisations begin incorporating the new digital location identifiers into their activities.
