The Tinubu-Dikko campaign team in Katsina State has suffered another setback after suspected angry youths attacked its convoy in Faskari Local Government Area on Saturday, destroying several vehicles and leaving many people injured.
Reports from the area indicate that some of the vehicles were smashed, while others were set on fire during the incident. Several people also reportedly sustained injuries, although the exact number of victims has not been established.
The attack is the latest in a series of security incidents targeting the campaign in Katsina, coming just four days after violence disrupted its flag-off rally in Funtua.
Similar attacks were also reported along roads in Malumfashi and parts of Kankara Local Government Area, where campaign vehicles were allegedly damaged during the campaign activities.
The repeated incidents have drawn attention to the political significance of the affected areas, particularly because they are linked to influential members of the Katsina State Government.
Malumfashi is the hometown of Governor Dikko Radda’s Chief of Staff, Abdulkadir Nasir, while the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba, comes from Faskari, where Saturday’s latest attack occurred. Deputy Governor Faruk Jobe is also from Kankara, another area where violence was previously reported.
Following the earlier incidents, the Tinubu-Dikko Campaign Council had called on security agencies to investigate the attacks, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found guilty faces the full weight of the law.
The campaign council also appealed to political parties, their supporters and other stakeholders to avoid actions or statements that could worsen the situation.
It urged residents and political actors to remain calm, exercise restraint and refrain from circulating unverified information that could trigger further tension.
With another attack now reported, concerns are growing over the safety of political campaigns and supporters in Katsina State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
