A pre-dawn attack on a security base in Oyo State left a patrol van and part of the facility burnt after armed men opened fire on personnel stationed at the location.

The incident occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday along the Igbeti-Igboho road in Oorelope Local Government Area, according to a security update cited by Channels Television.

An emergency call triggered the deployment of security personnel, including operatives from other agencies, to the area. By the time the team arrived, however, the attackers had withdrawn from the scene.

The gunmen were said to have operated in large numbers and engaged personnel at the base before setting fire to a block and a patrol vehicle. A subsequent search of the area did not lead to any arrests.

No death or injury was recorded in the incident.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the attack. Its spokesman, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, identified the location as an Army outpost along the Igbeti-Igboho road and said some property was damaged.

Security agencies have commenced investigations to determine those responsible for the attack.
