Houthi Attack Claim Disrupts Riyadh Flights, Airlines Suspend Services

Flights to and from Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, have been disrupted after Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed they fired a ballistic missile at King Khalid International Airport on Thursday.

Reuters, citing sources, reported that a parked Saudia Airlines aircraft caught fire and was badly damaged in the incident. Saudi authorities had not commented on the latest Houthi claim as of the time of reporting.

Air India and Lufthansa suspended flights to Riyadh following the reported attack, while cancellations increased across Saudi airports.

Aviation analytics company Cirium reported that nearly half of departures from Riyadh airport had been cancelled by 1500 GMT on Thursday. Another 31 cancellations were expected across Saudi airports on Friday.

The latest development comes days after Saudi Arabia reported that three people were killed in earlier strikes on airport facilities.

The reported attack adds to concerns about the spread of the conflict involving Iran and the United States and its impact on civilian infrastructure, air travel and regional security.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said Washington would not attack Iran before the American midterm elections scheduled for November 3, citing ongoing discussions with Tehran.

In a statement posted on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump said: “We are having productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran. We will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the United States on November 3rd.”

Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to help end the conflict during talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Turkmenistan.

Putin said Russia was ready to support efforts to resolve the crisis. He also said Iran was making efforts to end the fighting, according to Reuters, which cited the Interfax news agency.

The developments highlight the uncertainty surrounding the conflict, as diplomatic efforts continue alongside military actions and growing disruption to international air travel.
