A 17-year-old girl, Chiamaka Chukwuokore, has died from injuries sustained after she was allegedly thrown from a two-storey building in Owerri, Imo State.

Chukwuokore died on the evening of November 3, two days after the incident, which occurred on November 1 at Mbonu Ojike Street, Ikenegbu Layout, Owerri, Vanguard reported.

A 26-year-old man, identified as Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, was arrested in connection with the incident following an alleged disagreement with the teenager. He is said to be in a relationship with Chiamaka’s aunt.

The Imo State Police Command confirmed the teenager’s death on Wednesday, saying she had been receiving medical treatment for severe injuries before she died.

Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said the suspect remained in custody while investigators worked to determine the circumstances of the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and assured that the investigation would be thorough. The command also appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified accounts of the incident.
