The Nigerian military says an air strike destroyed an alternate residence linked to a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) commander in Borno State, killing members of the group and destroying equipment used for its operations.

Channels Television reported that the October 18 operation targeted the alternate residence of Abu Saleem, identified as ISWAP’s Wali of South Lake Chad, in Arina Woje, Monguno Local Government Area. The strike also destroyed the building, nine boat engines and several motorcycles stored at the premises.

In a statement issued in Maiduguri on Monday, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, said intelligence gathered after the attack confirmed the deaths of Jindullah, reportedly Abu Saleem’s chief security guard, and Abul Kissa, a member of the group’s Shura Council, alongside other fighters.

Goni said the attack was part of seven air operations conducted across Adamawa and Borno states between October 10 and 18. According to the military, the operations resulted in the deaths of 103 ISWAP fighters and the destruction of logistics hubs and storage facilities.

Another strike on October 13 targeted an insurgent gathering east of Badu after an air asset tracked fighters from the Mairari axis. The military assessed that about 30 fighters were killed in the attack, following the sighting of more than 100 insurgents and several motorcycles at the gathering. The extent of damage to the motorcycles was not confirmed.

Other targets included insurgent positions around Gudumbali, Badu and Mairari in Borno State, as well as Duste Uku in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The military said it would sustain coordinated air operations and cooperation with ground troops to disrupt insurgent activities and deny them safe havens in the North-East.
